I did not grow up around horses, but started out later in life at 25 years old. Growing up, my mom talked about when she had horses, but by the time I was born, there was not very many places for horses anymore in Orange County, CA. Other than the occasional pony ride and the fairs, I did not have much exposure to horses.
At the end of the year, I moved to Tucson, AZ working nights at Al-Marah Arabians as the Foal Watch person during their foaling season and started volunteering at TROT (Therapeutic Riding of Tucson) January 2011 and eventually ended up as the Assistant Barn Manager August 2012.
While in Tucson, I re-trained a Mustang Mare who had not had a whole lot of handling and had not been ridden for over 2 years. This mare, Shelby went from being a really dominant horse to a calm and sweet little girl. That's when I decided to try and make a living as a horse trainer. It was toward the end of 2012 when I started to advertise for horse training as a side gig while still working full time at TROT.
Starting Dec 2013, I started working for a client with 4 Arabians and 1 Palomino Saddlebred. Three of the Arabians and the Saddlebred were already started and some miles, but still green broke. The other Arabian, Fancy had not been started. In a total of 60 days training, I had Fancy doing everything most horses would take to do in 90 days of training.
I eventually ended up in Reno, NV August 2014, started training 4 captured wild Mustangs in foster care, and gaining clients throughout the S. Reno/ Washoe Valley area. I also trained a Mustang at Wynema Ranch named Rosebud. She was brought in from the big pasture due to long feet. After a couple other people attempting to train, I was called in and we got a farrier out roughly 1 month later and Rosebud was perfect.
On Dec 15th, 2014, I decided to adopt a beautiful and sweet young bay Mustang filly named Dehlia. Our best guess, according to the vet, she was born late Spring/ early Summer 2012.
At the end of June 2015, I started ground driving Dehlia in preparation to pull a cart.
At the beginning of July 2016, I made my first payment on Lucy, an Andalusian/ Friesian cross. Both Dehlia and Lucy are excellent for therapy and riding lessons.
